LIVING ROOM GIGS

NINE LESSONS: CHRISTMAS ACOUSTIC TOUR

For the past few years I’ve been performing concerts in the comfort of other folks homes. The concept of the ‘Living Room Gig’ is very simple - take a professional musician, provide a cosy corner in a friendly living room, invite a select audience, add some food and drink…… and you have the perfect evening out by staying in !

There’s more information about what’s involved in organising the gigs below. But first………
…..don’t take my word for it. Listen to some audio from audience members, hosts and the artist.

Every year I’ve been putting aside time in December to do some very special gigs on the theme of Advent and Christmas. Music has always been an integral part of the Christmas season for me. Yet often the carols and songs drift by on a high street wave of over-familiarity that takes away the original potency and impact their writers intended. So, armed with fresh interpretations, arrangements, melodies, and with a little background on the writers themselves, I hit the road with some of the best known seasonal works intent on helping people to look again. And you know, year on year people have said to me how they appreciated some time away from the inevitable hustle and bustle, to sit back and re-engage with the wonder of Advent and Christmas. The gigs are usually intimate, cosy events in atmospheric venues.  The aim is to enjoy the music, hear the stories, relax in good company and reconnect with a story that has often been buried too deeply amongst our headlong rush to December 25th.

The album that accompanies the tour (also called "Nine Lessons") is available to sample/purchase in the MUSIC section of the website.

THE SEAM: SONGS & STORIES FROM THE MINING INSTITUTE

NORTH BY EAST

As part of a unique project called The Seam in 2014/15 Gareth Davies-Jones was the singer-songwriter in residence at The Mining Institute, Newcastle Upon Tyne. Nestling at the heart of the city this fantastic Victorian Gothic building houses one of the most important historical archives in the country - detailing the history of mining going back to the 14th Century. Gareth's job was to tell the story of the archive through original song. As a result the album "The Usual Quarterly Days" was written, recorded and featured on a critically acclaimed tour in the spring of 2015. The show is available to venues across the country and can be performed solo, with a small band or for bigger venues with The Felling Brass, The North East Socialist Singers and a full back line. More details on the downloads. If you are interested in having The Seam at your venue please get in touch at info@garethdavies-jones.com
